Skills

Hi, I'm Alistair! I began my career in the banking industry and then moved into a career within the Probation Service, wherein I progressed from administration to managing a large team of administrators. All these roles involved working in a high-pressured environment and therefore required flexible problem-solving skills. My time in the Probation Service developed my strong communication skills, due to regularly engaging with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. The two management roles I held taught me how to effectively manage, train and motivate people. I then spent some time developing my project management skills within local councils, wherein my exposure to programmes alike Business Objects and SQL ignited my passion for programming. For the past three years I have been working as a Full Stack developer. These roles taught me how to be proficient in Laravel, Wordpress, PHP and SQL. I gained experience using different JavaScript packages, Unit PHP testing, upgrading Laravel and PHP versions, Hosting and maintaining staging and master sites, and using Git command line.

For almost four years I have been working as a Full Stack developer. These roles taught me how to be proficient in Laravel, Wordpress, PHP and SQL. I gained experience using different JavaScript packages, Unit PHP testing, upgrading Laravel and PHP versions, Hosting and maintaining staging and master sites, and using Git command line.

Experience

In 2021, I decided to pursue a new challenge and enrolled part-time in the Full-Stack Web Development course offered by IT Career Switch. During the year-long training programme, I earned the Microsoft certification Introduction to Programming Using HTML and CSS and built a strong foundation in modern web technologies. Upon completing the course, I joined a company as a Full-Stack Laravel Developer, where I learned how to build and maintain websites using Laravel, Laravel Nova, Vue.js, and other related packages. After gaining a year of hands-on experience in that role, I moved on to become a PHP Developer at Southampton Student Union. My responsibilities included integrating their static website into WordPress, developing new features for staff and students, and enhancing functionality across both platforms. Then, for almost two years I have been working as an Associate Application Developer, contributing to a bespoke sales software platform that processes high volumes of sales data. My work involves automating order workflows, sending status updates to customers, generating custom reports, and resolving technical issues as they arise. This website is a Laravel App powering my personal projects.
